The "Crup"
Noah was very sick last week with croup, a sinus infection, and an ear infection. Ella also had croup and a nasty cold. When Noah went to daycare, he told Lisa that he was sick and had "crup".
Last weekend we went with Grandpa Donnie and Grandma Jolene to the Pumpkin Patch. It was very cold and windy, but Noah had a blast. Ella was content in the Baby Bjorn for four hours.
Since Noah's starting feeling better (but not 100% better) he has been acting very naughty and attention seeking by saying mean words and hitting Seth and I. We had finally had enough of being told to "shut up" and hearing "I hate you" (where does he HEAR this stuff?) so we took everything out of his room except his bed and dresser and told him that when he couldn't talk nice he had to go in his room and that if he could talk nice for 7 days he could have his stuff back in his room. As I was moving his stuff out of his room he said "do you need a hand, Mommy? Can I help you?" Later, he told Seth that his room is so clean and he loves his room so clean.
Tonight he asked Seth when he could have his books back in his room and Seth reiterated the plan. Noah said "don't you worry about it, Daddy, I know I can do it". Let's hope so!

Race for the Cure
Two Sundays ago, Ryan, Seth and I did the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, which was a 5K race around the Civic Auditorium. Ryan and Seth had been training for it and the Corporate Cup Run, and I had been running a little to prepare for it. My three main goals were 1- be able to run the whole thing without walking, 2- finish in under 30 minutes, and 3- not die. I should have added a 4th goal, which I'll get to in a minute.
The results: I met all my goals!! I did have to stop once to "tie my shoe", but I finished at 28:10. Seth's time was 26 minutes and Ryan's was 29 minutes. I did better than I thought I would, but I had one major issue: I peed my pants!! About halfway through I had to go to the bathroom and there was nothing I could do about it. I tried to stop and act like I was tying my shoe to see if that would help, but it didn't. I found out quickly why one should not run a race 4 months after having a baby. Luckily our t-shirts were long, so I don't think anyone could tell. I was disappointed, though, because I wanted to sprint at the end when I could see the finish, but I was afraid I would totally lose it, so I held back.
So, we'll do it again next year. My goals have changed to: run the whole thing, finish in under 28 minutes, and keep my pants dry!

Laryngitis
We had a very eventful day today. Noah woke up with laryngitis. He seemed to be feeling a little under the weather, but not too terrible. Today was his first swimming lesson, and he really wanted to go, so I was a bad mommy and I let him go. He had so much fun! He didn't stop smiling the whole time. It took him a few minutes to catch on to the rules, the main one being 'hold on to the side of the pool at all times'. Twice he started swimming to the teacher and twice she led him back to the side of the pool. Tonight in the bathtub he told me that his teacher told him he did a good job listening, so hopefully he did. He practiced his kicking in the bath tonight, which he thought was great fun, and I thought was a great mess.
I took Noah to TCBY to get ice cream after dinner. He thought that would be a good way to help his throat. When we got home Ryan came over with Michelle, a friend from Chicago. Noah was showing her all his toys and talking a mile a minute. Unfortunately, none of us could understand what he was saying with his hoarse voice.
I was telling him about how when I was little my hair turned green from going to swimming lessons every day and being in too much chlorine. He said "that was the same time as the dinosaurs". How old does he think I am??

Field Trip
Noah had his first field trip yesterday. His preschool class went to the Bellevue Berry Farm. It was very interesting to see Noah with the other kids in his class. He was very much the leader of the group. Other kids copied whatever he was doing- good and bad. Luckily, most of it was good. I was also surprised to see that he is one of the tallest kids in the class. Who would've thunk it??

i'm a stupid baby
Right now Noah is laying in his bed saying "Mommy is a stupid baby. I don't love her forever". He's mad because I didn't read him any books at bed time because he ripped a book and hit me. Ella, bless her heart, is chewing on my sleeve- happy as a clam.

swimming lessons
I went to sign Noah up for swimming lessons today. The website said that numbers would be handed out at 5:30 and sign ups started at 6:00, so I showed up at 5:20. Some people had been camped out since 3:00- and I got #86!!! I didn't get to register until 6:45, but was able to get the time I wanted. I had no idea swim lessons were so competitive for 3 year olds!!
