Wimbeldon.....Here we come!

Noah looks like a mini Seth, but he is so much his mother's child. He is very competitive, he doesn't like change, he loves to read and learn, and if he isn't good at something right away, he doesn't want to do it. The latter is the reason my golf career ended after about 2 or 3 tries, and why Noah has declared that neither soccer, basketball, nor baseball are "his" sports. Luckily (since he is at the ripe age of 6 already) we may have found "his sport". He is doing really well at tennis, which couldn't make his Grandpa Tim and Grandma Mary more proud. And Mommy too, for that matter. He is taking lessons this summer and was in a class for 4-6 year olds, but, after a few days, the instructors asked if he could switch times to be in the 7-10 year old class because they thought that would be more at his level. He is holding his own with the big kids and he loves it! (Don't let the grumpy faces in the pictures fool you, that is his "concentrating" face and he is serious about this tennis business). I can't wait until he is good enough to be able to play actual games and we can play together..... since we probably won't be hitting the golf course any time soon. If he wants to take up golf, that's an activity he can partake in with his father.

Dancing Queen

Ella has been excited for about the past 6 months for her 3rd birthday so she can go to dance class. I'm glad she's excited about dance. The first words out of my mouth at her delivery when the doctor proclaimed "it's a girl!" were "yay! she will be in dance!". I took dance for 10 years and was really terrible at it, but it was still a big part of my childhood, so I am excited for her to be involved in dance, too. This summer she did a little two day dance camp for 3 and 4 year olds. She loved it!! She got to dress up in little costumes and use props like magic wands and pom poms. Noah brought his Nintendo Dsi to play while he waited and accidentally left it there on the second day. We had to go get it the following Monday and Ella couldn't understand why she couldn't stay and dance when we got there to pick it up. She said, "but Mom! I just have to dance!" Gotta love her enthusiasm!

Happy Birthday to Ella!!

Ella had a fun birthday weekend! She is very excited to be 3. On her actual birthday we had a little party at the park with her friends. It was a "Tinkerbell" party so the kids decorated cupcakes with "pixie dust". We had a pinata and played with sand toys. Ella had a blast!
On the 6th we had a party with family at our house. We had gotten the kids an inflatable waterslide and they had so much fun. I made Ella a Tinkerbell cake that I thought she would be so excited about, but she said she didn't like it. She wanted to "play with the Tinkerbell doll." After I explained that she could play with the doll when the cake was gone, she was much more excited.

Opening presents on the morning of her birthday. She is one of the few kids I know who is super excited about getting new pajamas!

The most important life lessons ARE learned in Kindergarten

Last Wednesday was Noah's last day of Kindergarten. He had an amazing first year of his school career. His reading has taken off like rockets. He will tell anyone who asks him how school is that he is reading at a 5th grade level. (We have a little work to do on modesty). He had a fabulous teacher who was so warm and caring and went above and beyond to keep him challenged and work at his level. We loved her!

On the last day of school I told the kids they could choose where to go for lunch. To my chagrin they chose Burger King and wanted to play at the play area. I think about half of the Millard elementary schoolers also chose to go to the same Burger King. There were about 5.6 million kids in the play area (okay, maybe 12 or so) and one parent- me.

I was seriously regretting my decision to let the kids talk me into letting them play- it was so loud and crazy and hot in there. There was a little boy there about Noah's age with a pink polo shirt and spiked hair. Noah came over to me upset because he said that pink shirt boy was being mean to him and had stepped on his back when he had accidentally fallen down. At the end of my patience I told Noah he had three choices- we could leave, he could stay away from him, or he could tell him to knock it off.

After a few minutes, Noah and pink shirt came over to me and Noah said "mom, this is my new friend" and then they ran off to play. Later I asked him what happened and he said that he just went up to the boy and introduced himself and asked if he wanted to play with him. He said "mom, don't you know it's just easier to be friends with people than be mad at them?"

I learn so much from my smart boy.
